I found Unreal Tournament significantly easier to use this week, and was able to concentrate more on the design of my structures. However, I was not able to figure out how to rotate what will become my ramps. Hopefully someone will be able to help me figure out whether it is me or my computer that is causing the issue during the tutorial.

These are the sketches of the two axonometric labratories with the joining meeting space from both angles, as well as a close up of the meeting space from both angles, and how they will relate to each other and the cliff.

This image from lecture seven best reflects what I am aiming to achieve in my own design. The way in which the shadows become an aspect of the structure adds interest to the design and help to create a sense of depth, which I hope to achieve, as I find interesting shadows help make the building itself more appealing. The shadow in this image also seems to reflect on the structure’s surrounding environment, contributing not only to the way in which the building relates to its environment, but also the overall impact of the structure. To do this, while still making my model in Unreal Tournament a functional space for the clients, I hope to make the physical structure that is actually there visually appealing as well as the shadows that are cast upon the cliff face and itself. I hope to achieve this as I believe an important aspect of a buildings’ design is not only should it be interesting and viable by itself, but the way in which it interacts and impacts upon an environment should be taken into account during its design process.

I found Unreal Tournament really hard to master, and I still don't think I am using it in the most efficient way. I struggled to get the sun in the position I wanted, which is why my models are mostly in darkness. Hopefully I will be able to find someone to help me get a better understanding of how the program works for next week.

These are my axonometric sketches with their corresponding clients and quotes.

I was having trouble uploading my final model onto sketch up's 3D warehouse, so i uploaded the file to rapidshare.com as someone on the forum suggested. This is the link:

And to see my comment on another student's work, follow this link:

When I went to upload my animations to YouTube their server was down, so i have uploaded them through Blogger instead.

My three sketch up animations of my final model.

These are the textures that I have used within my model.

This is my final sketch up model, which was based on the word 'assemblage'. The top studio is for Rosalie Gascoigne and the bottom studio is for Tracy Moffat. The materials I have used are stone, various bit of timber, concrete, steel and glass.

For Rosalie Gascoigne's studio, I created the exterior walls out of scrap pieces of timber in reference to her art-making practice of assembling pieces of wood she finds in the hinterland of Canberra. I also provided her with plenty of natural light and a rather large balcony so that she can be inspired by nature - which most of her artworks are inspired by - while she works. The stairs reference her recycling of discarded materials as they are made of found bits of steel and are in a loop, creating a reference to 'the circle of life', things being re-used after their original function.

For Tracy Moffat's studio, I included a lens-like skylight in reference to her photography. While it allows natural light into the studio, the skylight also allows Moffat to 'capture' the outside world. Her photographs mainly concentrate on racial tension within Australia, so to play upon that, as well as having to incorporate a dark room within a photography studio, I have made the interiors either black or white. The stairs show this off best, with the treads being white and the rises having a black texture on them, which from the front creates the illusion of floating stairs.
